In May 2020, members of the Digital Leadership Forum met over Zoom to discuss Competing in the Age of AI with Harvard Business School.

Representatives from leading organisations including Lloyds Banking Group, BT, Dell Technologies, AstraZeneca, GSK, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Artificial Solutions, First Rate Exchange Services, Symanto and more brought their professional experiences and questions directly to the Founder of the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard Business School.

Professor Karim Lakhani, Charles Edward Wilson Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School began the session by discussion the definition of AI, differentiating between ‘strong’ and ‘weak’ AI. Karim discussed examples of companies that adopted basic AI algorithms and applied it to other areas of their business to generate new business models.

He then went on to discuss an example of his own, where they used crowd-sourcing to generate algorithms to perform radiation-therapy targeting.

Attendees also learned about the importance of data and analytics as drivers of business and operating model transformation. Other key themes explored were the strategies and leadership necessary to reinvent organisations around data, analytics and AI.
